Question
How do you respond to 'Tell me a joke' or 'Sing me a song' in an interview?
Answer
Framework
Stay light, safe, and composed. The interviewer is testing personality and pressure response, not comedy talent.
Rules
- Keep it short.
- Avoid political, religious, sexual, offensive, or aggressive humor.
- Mild self-deprecating humor is safest.
- If you blank, acknowledge it with composure.
Example
'I have to admit, my spontaneous joke inventory is not my strongest technical skill. But I can offer a banking-safe one: an analyst walks into a bar, then checks whether the bar has been properly footnoted.'
If asked to sing
You can politely play along for one line or say lightly: 'I can, but I suspect my modeling is a stronger selling point.'
Goal
relaxed confidence, not performance art.
