Module IV· Curve Balls & Stress QuestionsAdvanced
Question
How do you respond to an ethical dilemma, for example if your MD asks you to breach client confidentiality?
Answer
Framework
Compliance first, relationship handled professionally.
Answer
- State the principle clearly: confidentiality and market-abuse rules are non-negotiable.
- Clarify whether there may be a misunderstanding.
- Refuse the improper action respectfully.
- Escalate to compliance / legal if necessary.
Example
'I would not disclose confidential client information. First I would clarify exactly what is being requested, because sometimes wording under pressure is imprecise. If it is truly a confidentiality breach, I would say I cannot do that and suggest involving legal or compliance. Protecting client trust and the bank's license is more important than avoiding an uncomfortable conversation.'
What is tested
character under hierarchy pressure.
