How do you choose the forecast horizon for a banker model?

Choose the horizon based on business maturity, visibility, investment cycle, and valuation method. DCFs often use 5-10 years until steady state. LBOs often use the sponsor hold period, usually 5 years. Infrastructure or project-finance models may need longer. The forecast should be long enough to reach normalized margins, capex, and working capital.
