Question
What is an IPO, and what are the main motives for issuers?
Answer
An IPO is the first public offering and exchange listing of a company's shares. Motives include raising primary capital, providing liquidity for existing shareholders, creating acquisition currency, improving visibility, professionalizing governance, deleveraging, and enabling future capital-market access. For sponsors, an IPO can also be an exit route.
