How do you distinguish an honest failure story from a humble-brag failure story?

An honest failure has a real consequence and a specific behavior you changed. A humble brag is framed as being too dedicated, too perfectionist, or too ambitious. If the interviewer cannot see what actually went wrong, it is not a failure story. Keep the stakes real but controlled.
