What is the 'Why Investment Banking?' question, and why is it asked in almost every interview?

It tests motivation, realism, and fit. Banks want to know whether you understand the job: analytical work, transactions, client service, long hours, and steep learning curve. A strong answer links your experiences to deal work, financial analysis, intensity, and long-term interest in corporate finance. A weak answer sounds generic or purely prestige-driven.
