How do you respond to harsh feedback in a final round, such as 'Your answer was weak'?
Answer
Framework
- Pause for two seconds.
- Acknowledge without self-pity.
- Give a better version immediately.
Example
'You're right, that answer was too generic. Let me make it more concrete. What specifically attracts me to this team is the combination of [deal / sector / platform] and the lean execution model I heard about from [conversation]. That matters to me because...'
If you cannot fix it instantly
Ask to reframe: 'May I take another pass at that with a more specific example?'
Avoid
defensiveness, panic, excuses, or collapsing into apology.
What is tested
coachability and composure. A strong recovery can improve the interview.
