Module V· Cultural Fit & DACH EtiquetteAdvanced
Question
How do you adapt if your final round is in Zurich or Vienna and you are a German candidate?
Answer
Principle
DACH is not culturally uniform.
Zurich
- Use standard German or English; do not imitate Swiss German.
- Be concise, precise, and slightly more reserved.
- Punctuality and discretion matter even more.
- Use substantive Swiss anchors such as pharma, FIG, industrials, wealth, or cross-border activity.
Vienna
- Slightly more formal and relationship-oriented.
- Be polished, patient, and respectful of hierarchy.
- Show interest in Austrian / CEE deal flow rather than treating Vienna as a smaller Frankfurt.
As a German candidate
Do not assume the German style is universal. Adapt tone, pace, and examples. Show regional respect without clichés.
Interview line
'I see Zurich / Vienna as a distinct market, not just another DACH office.'
